Yeah, I got a 'heads up' email about this from the team. Regarding the beta sign-up they said that they hope to: "...reach nearly all who apply, as we are able." which would be fantastic. The stuff on there just makes me want it more :P
Haha I wish! I applied, like, 3 times -personal, company, repeat- and Pestiboy even applied for me without warning No answer tho. Bah! Release is coming insn't it?
Awsome work, But Im confused as well. How did they get all the shaders and junk? are they taking those beauty renders in another program? If so, that's kind of cheap.
I love that shader Kenneth Scott used on that Doom Monster.
Well I've seen most of those renders on various forums, Jacques Defontaine work (Hellboy, Ben Kingsley) were rendered in Modo and Kolby's Hulk was a Photoshop paintover if I remember correctly. I'd imagine the others are the same.
I was so dismayed after clicking on that mudbox email this morning, hoping the beta was now available.
Patrick Stewart is my personal favourite- I'm loving the subtlety of the musculature- I did like Ben Kingsley as well but it seemed a lot more caracturised.
Must get Mudbox!! and Silo! and um.... *thinks of things that will make his art look good* :P
Yup thats some purdy stuff. I would like to see less beauty renders using other programs and more of what the actual end product of what Mudbox can produce. You can kind of get a feel for what Mudbox is capable of if you strain out the hype shots that are obviously using other software.
It's poor form to try and take credit for an entire scene when your app can't actually do everything pictured. They really should list ALL programs used to create the renders. It will give people who already use those programs a gage as to what they can expect Mudbox to do for them.
I honestly dont see it as the grave injustice that they're rendering models created in a program that has no sort of rendering engine in 3rd party apps. I mean seriously, you expect just to see a bunch of screenshots with no AA in a gallery? Mudbox is simply a modeling tool and if you've put any effort into doing any sort of research into it this would be abundantly clear. I really dont see it as them trying to fool anyone, just putting up the most amazing work people in the beta have been producing.
I agree... besides, anyone smart enough to use the program can tell what part of the beauty shots mudbox is responsible for. It's not like the line between mudbox and renderer is blurred beyond all recognition in the beauty shots. Brain switch on! smart observation go!
Program looks awesome... can't wait to dig into it. Finally, a 3d sculpting tool designed specifically for what *we* use it for. Rock on mudbox.
ha, the face by peter konig is a paintover, sure he did the model in mudbox .. but does it represent anything of the mesh? :P
Some strange choices, yet some great pieces too!
I guess everyone here is smart enough to see beyond the textures and realise that they werent created/rendered in mudbox.
texturing and all i think is fine to show,, but paintovers are pretty cheap.
i also think the plain sculpts show off to the best extent what the program is for, i also think the real human face scults are much more impressive than the bloby monsters,
i also liked seeing the terrain piece done in it,, pretty nice

I am confused though.. Mudbox I thought didnt have any texture/paint/shader tools? Or am I totally off?
