Extra mouse buttons - way to utilize?

On this Logitech MX500 I have a 'back' and 'forward' button under my thumb; they seem to not be innately recognized inside Maya. Is there a way to assign them to anything? I'd love to flip between face and edge selection using these buttons. Thanks.

The logitech configuration in your control panel might allow you to map the buttons to keyboard keys, which could then be assigned to features in Maya.
