The Descent - Go see it

Just got back from seeing The Descent and wow, awesome movie.

It hasn't really gotten much publicity in the states, so I thought I'd hype it here. Probably the best horror movie I've seen since 28 Days Later. Very creepy creature effects. Wish more movies (especially horror movies) would take note and move away from using CG effects for everything and use more live action effects.

Solid movie, no real complaints from me (except for that horrible poster). Go see it now!

the claustaphobia aspect has me creeped out but the trailer showing the creatures instead of teasing has me worried.

hah, yeah its a good film .. very lovecraftian. ITs funny because films usually come out in the states first, but The Descent was out in the Uk over a year ago

Hmmm... I had pretty much ignored this so far because it was advertised as comming from the creators of hostle and the hills have eyes or something. Basically two movies which I abhor.

Might need to check it though now...

It made me amused more than afraid. There were a couple of good bits, but in general I'd say it was middling at best.
28 Days Later was way more entertaining, and so was Dog Soldiers.

It was completely dark like 99% of the time so i couldnt see shit and it was boring and well just junk imo.

Same director as Dog Soldiers, so if you enjoyed that, then you will enjoy this.

I enjoyed both very much. Though, when I saw the Descent way back, I didn't know a thing about it. The American previews pretty much spoil the unveiling of the monsters.

When I first saw the trailer for this, I was really excited about it because it looked like it was just gonna be about a handful of girls trapped in a cave. And thats it. The whole movie was them trying to get out, and having to deal with one another breaking down and dealing with their own issues. You know - human drama. Then they showed monsters in the trailer and I was immediately turned off. Why must hollywood insist with monsters/gore/blood/lame shocking moments? Don't get me wrong, I love those types of movies when done properly, but it seemed to me like they were just adding monsters to this movie because that was the easiest thing to do.

It's getting good reviews though.

I guess they changed the ending for the American release. And after reading the original ending, I think I would of perfered the original one more.

Still though, after seeing most of the horror movies that have been coming out lately, this movie was very refreshing.

Yeah, Dog Soldiers was WAY better than The Descent. It had a nice element of not taking itself entirely seriously, and ended up much more fun because of that.

I guess Im the only one in here who thought Dog Soldiers was one of the worst movies captured on film ever...

Although I liked The Descent. Saw it 2 nights ago.
I also had kinda hoped for it to be sans monsters, but it was enjoyable anyway.

Now that I hear the ending was changed for the US, and people liked it, I wonder if the ending consisted of the last 90 minutes of it?

Saw it tonight...

GREAT movie...loved every bit of it, loved the music, and cinematography was great, it just didn't feel like "some stupid horror movie".

The US version ends when she sees Juno in the car. I liked the UK ending more.
