Dude you could take quite a few of those edge loops out and still maintain almost the exact some silohette. Great progress! gogo!

ebagg: yeah, but I think he wants a flowing fishy-type animation, which would look better with more loops.

well, he's not gunna be animated for this challenge, but you're right, I plan to save this version for later use

UV mapped the whale, workin on the scene, anyone know a good method for making a frozen ocean? what I have here is just based on some trial and error.

D'oh, I just commented on this in the SWAYWO thread. I was way off, but I see it now.

I'm guessing the ocean was flash-frozen, so the gentle undulation of the waves that far out would be caught just like the whale... think of a desert, but with a frozen texture instead of sand.

Try a blue-ish, transparent texture with cracks and opaque white areas
