I dont know if this should be 2d/3d discussion, but I came across this on boingboing and I really enjoyed it. First time I've seen him, I guess it was an old art instruction programme in the 70s: http://positiveapeindex.blogspot.com/2006/07/bob-ross-and-his-happy-little-afro.html
man he's just so relaxed, I'd really like to have his mindset
or maybe hes just stoned
I remember watching Mr. Ross paint his happy little clouds and simple-brushstroke-trees as a kid, always amazing to see how quickly he could whip up a landscape. Was hilarious in college cause one guy (who could actually paint pretty damn well) swore by his Bob Ross paint brushes, and refused to paint in class if he didn't have them along.
well, yeah I've never seen him on uk telly before. Either I missed it or he wasn't aired in uk
edit: haha theres a Wii game planned based on him: http://wii.ign.com/articles/699/699647p1.html
haha, my painting professor in college could never understand students fascination with Bob Ross. almost every art student i knew grew up watching him on PBS
When I was about 7 I once got irrationally angry at my dad (who is actually quite a painter himself) because the method he was trying to teach me was in some insignificant way different from Bob's. Bob was my idol.
Just wanted to chime in and say that I remember watching ole Bob Ross when I was a kid quite a bit, and feeling inspired about becoming an artist. What a great attitude he seemed to have.
Ha, I remember him from when I was a kid. The amazing thing was that he just brushed away a bit, and it came out looking beautiful. Looking at that now, I have that exact same feeling. Quite amazing. I can't see myself even attempting that without a Ctrl-Z
was zapping channels late night and stumbled upon his series, they show it on public german tv as well. Have seen a couple series now, mostly shortly before I'd go to sleep. It's interesting to see how he can come up with stuff so quickly and "seemingly simply" yet it always works out well at the end.
I would watch him all the time when I was very young. He would put you into a trance. Very relaxing voice. Less than half an hour later you come out of it veiwing a beaufiful painting. The man was flawless in his technique.
Boy, been ages since I've seen that and it's still awesome. Remember watching him when I was a lot younger, always amazed me. That he could do stuff like that in such a short time without screaming various obscenities is very impressive.
Hey that clip is linked to youtube, say, if you resize photoshop with the clip playing to the side....painting with Bob Ross...IN PHOTOSHOP!!!
I've seen his show since i was a kid too, he belts out landscapes filled with happy clouds and bushes like crazy, and he's so relaxed about it. I don't think he has been beat yet when it comes to instructional painting.
I actually painted along with a Bob Ross video once as a kid and the results were pretty good, not as good as Bob's stuff but I still had a few moments where I just did a few simple strokes and, tada, a happy little tree! I really hate the mess of oil though so I never really kept with it.

Happy little trees! I love when he does the little 'beat the devil out of the brush' percussive diddy.
He out on DVD yet?

Was a damn cool video though. Made me want to oil paint again.:D
watching his videos is hypnotic .. his soft, almost rhythmic and melodic voice just puts you into a trance ....
I caught this episode. Hilarious and creepy parodic character of Bob Ross!

That's just the first 9 minutes, but the rest of the episode is on there as well.
