Funny to grow up seeing those cruise around the area, and now have my very own! (Everyone's collecting toys from that era... there's mine! )
Still remember The A-Team, going to Disneyland (was the best in the 80s!), Saturday Morning Cartoons (the big stations practically were warring for who could grab our attentions)... all that good stuff.
oh god .. i can feel it about to happen ... "oihh, does anyone remember Willy Fog? Does anyone remember Mysterious Cities of Gold?" etc etc ad fucking nauseam ...
and for the record, no, i don't. I was in a coma throughout the 80s
Ah, You Can't Do That On Television. The Canadian skit comedy which as not only terrible (even as a child I hated it) but to add insult to injury, introduced the world to Alanis Morisette.
As far as classic 80s children's media go, I think The Neverending Story (Theres only one that exists as far as I'm concerned) deserves a mention. The labyrinth has also yet to be mentioned.
Series-wise, You can't go past Tony Robinson's Tales from Fat Tulips Garden.

I was still in kindergarten when the 80s ended, I do recall liking Dangermouse, some cartoon that anthopomorphized various cells to explain biology to children, the Smurfs, Samurai Pizza Cats (if that was still the 80s, not sure), TMHT and Transformers (but only as toys, never even once saw the show).
And of course I liked my Pong, Pacman and Pitfall and the various C64 games I played (Great Giana Sisters, Katakis, Eliminator, Castelion, Bubble Bobble, not going to check their dates right now). A quick check reveals that the only 80s GB game I have and like is Super Mario Land.
Cadillacs and Dinosaurs was another favorite of mine...sadly it only lasted 1 season. I am a sucker for Retro-Future-Prehistoric action adventure . Maybe that style could make a "comeback" and become the next steam-punk.
The Mysterious Cities of Gold was by far my most favorite show evvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvver.

And yes, the vast majority of that lot sucked, but the good stuff was golden
I'd found myself singing this song to my little girl (who by the way, is home from the NICU after being born prematurely). And I was trying to remeber if I had heard it from Sesame Street or Pinwheel. (I loved this song as a kid). Come to find out it was Sesame Street. I couldnt believe I actually found the clip/song on YouTube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UPae3XbOh9s
thanks to sites like uknova, I can tell you all that we are just using rose tinted glasses. Please please please don't hunt down your old favorites and re-watch them, you will shatter all your dreams.
I really used to enjoy all the low budget stuff on channel 4 in the UK.
I recently re-read the first book of R. A. Salvatore's Dark Elf Trilogy ("Homeland"), because I remembered it being freakin' awesome. I was wrong. Please heed hawken's warning, lest ye destroy your very own soul.
(except You Can't Do That On Television and Dangermouse; they're still good)
I dunno hawken I watched ulysses again and I still enjoyed it, except for the last episode which I'd never seen. FFS they treated it like a normal ep, except at the end the narrator said as the ship flies into space 'and so ulysses found the way back to earth and was reunited with his companions' the end. Gyp!
