...and I will say that I have been fairly pessimistic about the upcoming Transformers movie. There are already significant changes rumored, the Camero product placement version of Bumblebee, and I know Michael Bay has to screw with everything. All sorts of stuff seems likely to converge in a less than satisfying fashion. Transformers were my 'thing' as a kid: I had dozens of 'em, saw every single episode of the cartoon and must have watch the animated film a dozen times, etc. I've decided my nostalgia for those memories is probably so strong that I really haven't been able to get excited about the live action film, knowing it won't be anything like the way I remember it as a kid. And then...
Just a few moments ago, I read the announcement that Peter Cullen will be reprising his role as the voice of Optimus Prime. Twenty years of my life just dropped away, and it is once again a Saturday morning in 1986.

paint us a picture of all the transformers. and all the fight scenes. and a penis.
I was quite partial to the odd transformer when i was a child ... but again, like that teenage mutant twat turtle thing, it's a desperate attempt to cling to a past characterised by things seeming so much more exciting ...
a time when special FX was a skill owned by a select talented few, and a rostrum camera was the tool of the gods ... when the thought of a Big Trak on christmas morning was enough to make a young lad come across the kitchen floor and get roundly slapped by his mum ... when the spectrum 128 made up for it's lack of pixel colour by having better sound and twice more memory than it's competitors and you could win fights in the playground by pointing this out ... when action and adventure films were made by people who gave a rancid shit ...
... goddammit, it's 2006! Lets find SOMETHING to mark the times
(PS: JUSTTTTT KIDDDDDING!!!! )
Frankly after Beast Wars, Armada, Energon, and all the recent official cartoons, I'm looking forward to the movie. It can't possibly be worse than some of those.
