They dumped the Archie comics / early 90's cartoons. They made fun of that in the new series. Basically, Mickey is about to say 'Cowabunga', and Raph kicks him and tells him to shut up.
The new series is heavily based on the graphic novels of long ago. I'm sure the movie will appeal to kids, but still have a dark theme to it.

- Writer-director Kevin Munroe was present and revealed five minutes of footage from the anticipated film, which is set after the second live action movie.
- He said that the film will feature hidden jokes from the comics and animated series.
- Splinter will be voiced by Japanese actor Mako. The other voices will be announced in a month, but they are not well-known celebrities.
- Shredder is not the villain in the story, though he does make an appearance, which might set up the conflict for the sequel.
- Expect Casey Jones and April to develop a relationship.
- Marco Beltrami is doing the score, and they are looking to create a theme for the "Turtles" CG movies, something memorable like the "Batman" theme.
- One of the scenes shown features a turtle dressed up for a kids party, and the kids beat him up, with one of the little girls kicking him in the balls. A lot of action scenes were also shown, like the turtles on skateboards, hang gliders, etc.
- The movie features a bat character and female ninja characters.
- There is a human villain, who may or may not be named Winter.
Looks pretty slick.. they move a lot more amphibiously through the environment.

Yea, they leap like frogs and shit. Certainly turned out alot better than i had imagined. I didn't think the first shots of the turtles looked any good, but seeing them animated it looks cool. NINJA WERE MENT TO BE TURTLES ITS TRUE!!!11one
But it's the TMNT! I lurved them when I was a kid. Especially the third movie. And those were fairly gritty. All that exposition in the first one when Splinter was captured and the one guy was hurt...it was really dramatic.

I wonder if they remembered that turtles have armored balls?
I remembered a while back talk of "Mutant Ninja Turtles" (yes no tenage on purpose) and it was supposed to take on a much more dark and serious tone to target the original audience who are now adults. I am very not only by this but by the new series, I for once would just like to good ol' serious TMNT 1 style. I don't want all neo-cartoony 3d graphics lets make 12 yearolds happy movie. Meh, guess it just goes hand in hand with getting older.
believe it or not these turtles look more like the orginal black and white versions than any other attempt yet. sadly thats not a good thing. i thikn this is peter lairds style, i always prefered kevin eastmans version, the more square face.
considering 90% of the public's knowledge of Ninja Turtles comes from the first cartoon they cant stray too far from that image without alienating their target audience. and considering the merchandise those campy turtles moved in their heyday, you can bet they will try to keep it within that market.
i generally hope it stays more in line with the FEEL of the first movie and less of the second. (though in their day i enjoyed both)
christ ... this constant half-arsed recylcling of anything that qualifies as reasonably nostalgic, while originality pisses itself up a wall and popular culture comes crashing down round us in a burning hail of fucking Love Island and wanker-orientated CG and shiny colours, is getting somewhat annoying.
One quick blip. The characterization of the cg figures are straight from Eastman and Lairds original work. So yes, Im sure they do look funky to some who have unfortunately only been exposed to the original cartoon series which had very little to do with the comic. Eastman and Lairds work wasn't the most ummm (whats a good term?) "modern". They were self taught afterall.
Ill let 3dguy claim biggest fan for the original cartoon, however he would be hard pressed to compare to my geekdom for being a fan overall for the franchise. So as such a geek..
It looks fun to me, however as whats been shown here, i wonder if they might loose some of the audience who arent familiar with such a drawing style. To be consistent it should make the entire film including the environments in the loose style of the initial. Otherwise its going to be too surreal with their cartoonish cg turtles with all other characters and environments much more "constrained".
Edit: The recent resurgence of the original series written by laird and draing by lawson is quite fun. The turtles are in their 30s in it.

TMNT's new cartoon series is awesome. Especially the first season.

I second that...
It lacks the flare of the original movies just as the new series lacks the flare of the old one.
ive mixed feelings on the frog like jumping.
for me the music in the trailer doesnt quite fit the look and feel of it.
looks like fun
I liked the bit o' humor with the garbage bin, was worried it was gonna be too serious.
