Foreign Interns

I have a question for you guys...

I have been thinking about applying for an internship in a company outside of Europe(the US more specifically), because I'd really like to see more of the world and other cultures and the kind of experience you get from that is always usefull!
Anyway, on to the question :
Does or did your company ever hire foreign interns, and what is the company's procedure to do so? Basically all I really want to know is how to best approach interesting companies that do hire foreign interns :P

I need all the help/tips/stories I can get so spit it out!!!

(it doesnt have anything to do with game design btw, looking for an internship as a web developer)

I would imagine that it would be too big of a hassle for the company to get you a work visa and such to make it worth while for them.

I remember a studio in germany was saying that they would accept internships from other countries if you were good enough... dont know about the US, but i imagine it would be possible if they really like you.

I think that as AZ says, due to work visas it's unlikely to the point of you probably having to give up on the idea I'm afraid. Country to country within the EU maybe sure, but EU to US no way.

America is on a foriegner hating streak. They wont even renew my visa. At least I'm still here.

back in university (late clinton era), this was definitely a possible thing to do. some of my colleagues went for traineeships to the US (6 months, usually) and others wrote their degree thesis at US universities. not sure if you really needed a normal work visa for that kind of thing.

overseas traineeships were pretty expensive though - people only received peanuts if at all and had to pay for flights, accomodation etc. entirely out of their own pockets.

Internships at game jobs? Those exist?! From what I've seen the places that do have interns get them because you know someone personally, and live close by so you can contribute for free. Sorry to say it but your idea sounds a bit impossible.
