Maya and ATI 9800XT issues?

Wasn't there a support group for Maya and 9800xt users? Hi my name is Dekard and I am a maya user with an ATI 9800XT. "Hello Dekard"..

I'm trying to get back into modelling now for school and as soon as I put on a friggin imageplane on one of my viewports it takes like 20 seconds to refresh when I use the cv curve tool. I just updated my drivers and it's unworkable this slow.

My PC specs are 3 GHZ P4, 1 gig of ram and 256 MB 9800XT. I'm about ready to throw the card out the window.

Did I see a thread about maya problems with ATI here? I can't recall where there were suggestions to fix this..

I don't know how to fix this, but before throwing the card out...try installing the latest OmegaDrivers.

went out and picked up a 256mb Geforce 6600.. almost as fast in games and no problems in Maya yet.

I tried pretty much the same thing, when I used image planes or other specific features maya would slow to a crawl, it literally ran better on my older geforce 3 64mb card. Seems like Nvidia might not be quite as fast for games but 3d software it fails pretty badly.

I did ask for help.. I tried the omegadrivers.. they didn't help, I also heard about something 2 years ago about using some handmade firegl drivers for the same problems with the 9800xt. I read tons of people having issues and no real solutions other then get a different video card. So I dropped a little cash so I could actually use Maya again.
