hi everyone !
I'm currently working on this "very" low poly diorama based on the anime/manga "nausicaa of the valey of the wind"
it's currently a little under 1500 tris ( 500 for the ohmu ( the big worm thing) 400 for the caracter and her flyer and the rest for the environment) .
I'm mainly looking for feedback on how to improve the texture as i find it's lacking ...
but any other suggestions on the modelling or any feedback at all is welcome
and the full diorama: (the wierd planes at the back of the creature are for a dust cloud and the weird shapes are basically a weird type of fungi/mushrooms)
heh. neat little diorama...manoman I love me some ultralow poly stuff...but you really should give those mushrooms, at least the big ones about twice the polies around the top curve they it has now...otherwise the corners are a little distracting IMO
Since it's a single view diorama, you could probably replace the back legs of the Omu with single-plane legs, since there's going to be a lot of dustiness back there anyway, to help shave the polies for the mushroom...
simply take the map of the little creature in PShop and contrast that sucker. all those areas between the segments on the creature should be darker. also, i'd add some saturation via ctrl+U or paint in some saturated colors. lookin good tho
.
Ohmu eyes are big enough to be an umbrella for nausicaa, so I'm thinkin they should be a bit bigger to really read as ohmu. Also the suggestions about emphasizing the segmented body are good ones. the spikes on it's back seem sort of random and I think if you look at your refference they are placed pretty semetrically. the random things jutting off of the baby in that one shot are actually little missles they stabbed into the body of it to piss the ohmu parents off. Remember that a full sized Ohmu can destroy a city block quite easily.
