Hey, I know I don't post much but I wanted you guys to know that I just got a new job as Art Production Manager at NCsoft Austin. I'm working on Dungeon Runners, a kick-ass casual MMORPG, and I've basically been given full artistic control over it. It's a huge amount of responsibility and it's exactly the kind of thing I've been wanting to do for years, and I finally got it! WOO!
And it all started here on polycount, when I was a 14-year-old little twerp that wanted to make something of himself. Well, I have now, and I gotta thank my peeps here for helping me out over the years.
I just made the move from Ready At Dawn Studios working on Daxter in Orange County, CA and drove all the hell the way to Austin, Texas, where I got a kickass place to live, a great job, making great money on a project I want to work on and want to play, and I gotta give thanks to everybody here for helping make it possible.
At the risk of sounding cliche and slightly douchebaggy, dreams CAN come true! Work hard, make friends, appreciate people, work hard and never stop trying! Woo-ha!

NCSoft is a great company!
you should come down to NB to check out the lake/river/schlitterbahn (world's #1 waterpark)
congrats!
But how can you have full artistic control over it when there are allready screens released. Are you gonna remake all the graphics?
Now that you are here, have some real bbq

There's a huge library of art for all of the game's previous incarnations. I'm basically going in and picking what stays, what goes, what gets polished, and what new art to put in. Then we ship that, and oodles of brand new content will get rolled out as the game grows and evolves.
It's not a from-the-ground-up type gig, but I'm cool with that. I have a lot of material to work with. And, to my surprise, Dungeon Runners actually has some incredibly high quality art lurking in there. I'm gonna try and make it even more obvious.
It's kind of odd to think of you as an art manager for me, owing to not having talked to you much while you changed from the 14 year old (...?) I remembered from the early days of HH3.
Not that this matters.
Having started out as the 22year old with a chip on my shoulder and burning desire to make up for a number of years previously wasted (imo) and worked myself past breaking point to get to my hands on my own dream....
..I understand completly the feeling you are in the midst of
So congrats and don't forget the shitty days when the days ahead get tough, hope it all works out for you.
r.
jon here was barely outta diapers before he started making game art
I have an art manager request: Please make sure the women characters in the new MMO "Do not run with their hands flapping by the side of them" like guild wars. The character animation is the worst, especially for a great looking game.
Aw, remember you being knee high to a Strogg
