Hi,
I am a rookie texture artist from Chichester, west sussex, England. I am looking for an established games company who are willing to take me on for one week as an unpaid apprentice. My reason for this is simple: I realy want to become a texture artist, and in order to do this I need to know what it's like working to deadlines and doing work that will challenge me. I want to learn the tricks of the trade, and find out what a real working environment is like in the games industry.
I am willing to work alongside others, in a team, or even simply observe and help out when needed. So if anyone is willing to help me and gain an extra pair of hands for a week, that would be great.
My expertees are in paint shop pro, but I am familiar with photoshop and can acheive the same result as with psp but it takes me longer! 3dsmax is the only modeling software I have used, but I am more than willing to learn how to use new programs and new methods.
Thanks,
H

Set a goal for your self, do 15 great textures in one month (or whatever it takes you) and put them online. Then look for texture positions online and forward a link to your online portfolio.
Many people in the gaming industry are self-taught (me too). There are plenty of good tutorials online. If you are motivated/passionate, have time and an artistc eye, there is really no limit to how good you can get. Hang around on forums like this one to learn a bit about the industry. Here are some places to look for work once you have a nice portfolio:

Although, you're doing it the wrong way around. You can't just put a post and hope companies to come to you, even if you offer to work for free you really want to learn stuff, and its likely that the work you do won't be used by the company.
If you recognise the fact that you're likely to be seen as more of a burden than anything else, you can't expect companies to come calling after you . What it means is you have to single out companies within your local area or whereever you can get to, and pester the hell out of them.
Do some research on the company, phone them up, and keep phoning them when they say theyre busy please phone back later, (this will probably happen a LOT of times). If you manage to convince them to at least show you around for 45 mins, try to convince them you're interested in them and their products, and show a bit of company knowledge. Once theyve got to know you and see youre eagre then you might get to hang out and learn some stuff for a longer time..
perseverance is rewarded!

Personally I would never do this. They may get so annoyed by your calls to never consider you.
