Animated GIF freeware?

Can anyone recommend a freeware GIF animator?

I need to convert some strange-size AVIs into animated GIFs, like 600x100, but none of the freebies I've seen work worth a damn.

I've tried Animator9 (crashed), CoffeeCup (f#ckin watermark), Advanced Gif Anim (same), Longtion GIF Anim (same), Photobie (10000 steps).
