Oh, hell yes. That's what I'm talkin' 'bout, Willis. I'm so sick of the tongue-in-cheek smarminess and eye-rolling charicature that Bond has become over the last twentysome years that I didn't even bother to see the last one. Everything I've heard about this film makes it seem it's headed in a more realistic direction (a la the Bourne films, maybe) and treating Bond himself as a hardcase rather than the prettiest girl at the ball is so much more interesting. Sight unseen, I suspect that this film will hit closer to the mark of Fleming's vision than any Bond film since the 1960s.
Yeah, I think I might be inclined to agree with that assessment Verm.
The bastard might be ripped but I still think Craig has a funny forehead. I got a high res model kicking around somewhere. I wonder If I can stick it in my portfolio now?!
Oh hell yeah... This is gonna rock the house indeed.
...and I STILL say Craig needs to play McQueen's character in a modern remake of Bullitt, he so looks the part. (and hey... Chrysler will be taking care of it's part of the job for that remake to be possible in the short term, so why the hell not!)
it seems a shame that most of the trailer shows it off as another in-face action film ... i was hoping that they'd head back to From Russia With Love territory ... hell, they still might, trailers are meant to appeal more to the lowest common mong denominator even more than the films themselves, which leaves some hope ... but one things for sure : if it's even slightly like Die Another Day, which is one of the most genuinely numbing things i've ever seen at the cinema, i will be throwing things at the screen and crying like some kind of angry Babbit
he seams to hark back to the connery days which is good, where as brosnan was more- OTT Roger Moore, which wasnt great in the first place (rogers films were made by the gadgets IMO)
This one defineatly looks good - but I still don't see Craig as bond. He's just not slick enough. I see him as a straight up hitman. A transporter. Something like that. Not a suave spy.
I will reserve an opinion on Craig until I see the film. In some shots, he really does look a bit too brutish or working-class to convince me he can operate in high society, but I remember his performance in Layer Cake and he did well enough there. The 'suave spy' is something that grew more from the films than the books, and never appealed to me all that much.
I don't think this trailer looks like it was designed for mass appeal, though. Yeah, there's an explosion or two, but no gadgets, high-wire stunts or half-naked babes; the usual Bond gimmickery is largely absent, and the trailer itself makes it feel like this film is more character driven than the series has seen in years, perhaps ever.
Good points verm, one big thing I noticed was there was no bond in a sportscar shooting missiles. The thing is that with every new actor as bond, the character of Bond is changed to be a bit more suited for that actor. Personally I'll be glad to see a bond who's a bit less of a suave man whore, although the trailer certainly shows off some sexy women. That and it's good to see a Bond who's a bit more physical, no offense to Pierce but I never saw him or his scenes portraying him as someone who could hold his own against some of the bigger, more brawler type foes.
