HL2 Episode One Crashing

Picked up Episode one last week, seems pretty cool so far, except that it keeps crashing. There was a point on the elevator part where stuff falling down on ya where everytime I got there everything would freeze. Managed to get past that by turning the graphics all the way down (left them at the recommended settings), but about 20 min later it happened again (after turning the setting back up). I never had any problems with HL2, not sure what would be causing this. Anyone have any similar problems or know of a way to fix it?

i'm not sure myself, but the steam forums are usually pretty good for things like that. I was having audio problems when hl2 first came out, they had a solution.

Episode 1 crashed on me alot. Seems it's been happening to people all over.

I got through most of my second playthrough ok, except for the escort part which must have crashed about 10 times on me. I found overwriting old save games seemed to reduce my chances a of crashing on a save- but maybe it was just coincidence.

maybe your card doesnt like the HDR... I turned it off cause it annoys me...

HL2 acted buggy on my laptop until I got the omega drivers and turned off HDR, I wish I could have it on though, I played the beginning of EP:1 and the light shining through the rocks looked really cool.

My system was crashing every 1/2 hour to hour on Ep1... but then it's doing that on a lot of things lately... wish I knew wtf was wrong.

Well, last night I tried downloading new drivers for my graphics card. Things seem to be working better, played for about an hour with no probs so hopefully it's fixed. May be worth trying for those of you who are having similar problems.
