hard drive overheating

yeh just bought a 300gb seagate sata hardrive. Been working fine then all of a suddden it goes off and would n't boot.
Let it cool for a bit and it boots again.
Its incredibly hot after only a few mins.

As I say its been working fine for a month, then suddenly you can fry eggs on it

any ideas? i have got a 5 year warranty, but just wondered if it could be anything else in my system causing it

do all the fans still spin in your machine? did you change anything in the guts of your system that e.g. prevents airflow?

if your drive get's too hot, it might die very quickly.
a workaround would be to get one of those drive cooling fans or a case fan that points at the disk.

I would return it, you can't really fix a hard drive, but like Thom said, check and see if there is something wrong with your case first...

yeah, think i will take it back. it boots soemtimes and not others, mostly not. Man I am having bad luck with hardware recently

my SATA's tend to run hot also, but not as hot as what you are discribing. I was worried about the heat and my case had an extra spot for a fan to blow between the HD's so I installed it. Something you might want to look into?

Vig-just slapped on an old fan with a heatsink, seems to have cooled it down.
still randomly turning itself off though. If I boot up 10 times, it will come on perhaps once
