My idea is for an omnipotent god-machine of sorts...in the shape of a pie...
Mechanical junk is my downfall, so hopefully I won't give up half way through.
This is just me getting something down to get the brain rolling. Expect there to be more to the concept later.
(perspective be damned!)
I'm thinking that the pie pieces would be lit up and when a category were chosen the colors (not the pieces) would roulette around and stop (the color on the big piece indicating which category is chosen). If I were to be making this for a game, what would be the best way to go about doing this? Animated textures? Texture swapping? Creative UV usage? Animating the pieces around? It isn't necissary for the final, just curious for if I ever wanted to impliment it or do it on a different project.

Really.
Thanks Jimmies, but now you have forced my hand! What do I have to show for?! Well, not much...
This is about as far as I got before I realized I was too ambitious for the budget. I guess I could still TRY to cram it into the budget...maybe as a side project or something, like a PSP boss or something. Anyway, I threw these two concepts together.
There's the obvious problem of too much symmetry. The top row of bubbly things is filled with brains. The six little circles at the front would blink the different color, selected category landing on the big light. There was going to be tentacle things coming out of those two front deflector things. They would suck the knowledge out of everybody and everything. The pie holds the legendary -w1SD0M- virus.
I didn't get so far with this one, but you can see the approach I took. This one was going to be more alive.
I like the first of the two new concepts. MAKE IT!!!!
Looking forward to seeing the 3D translation.

Took me long enough...
Thanks guys. Currently this beauty is sitting on 1406 tri's. And that bloomin' onion thing is a nightmare.
