Steampunk Retired Wizard Commander

This is a steampunk style character I've been working on lately, an elderly midget wizard commander that doesn't have much left on the powers side, and uses his six shooter instead cause it "works better".

I still need to add a lot of detail, especially in his hands, and in the overwhelming amount of wierd medals he'll have pinned to his chest.

What's he for? Im noticing that he for all intents and purposes seems like a high res model but then some stuff seems to have fairly polygonal edges?

Doesn't really have a specific purpose, other then to go into my portfolio as a beauty shot, but your correct, daz, some of the objects are lowpolys with normals on them still, I haven't smoothed them, because my computer is already crying as it is about the density of the mesh. For my final render I'll either figure out displacement maps, or just import all the high res meshes!

Yah, steampunk is western with machinery, and magic, a very interesting genre that doesn't get too much love

Love the model. I just have one sort of critique/question based on the design. He's supposed to be a wizard turned general kinda thing, right? Because in looking at the model I really don't see the idea of Wizard comming across. He seems more like just an eccentric commander. I think it would be good to try to add in some more aspects of the archetypal wizard to get the point across?

Of course, I am by no means a great character designer, and this is an awesome design and model either way, that was just my cent and a half. :P

Daz: Zbrush, though i've been checking out mudbox, and its a crusher, I am going wait till all the functionality is in it. Zbrush took me awhile to get used too, so maya native style camera controls in mudbox are just perfect for my work flow. When mudbox hits the market, I am on it.

Tulkamir: Your 100% current, I am making him a wizarding staff with 4 pronged cogs at the bottom for extra stability (he's getting old), and a massive spell book that'll hang off his shooting shoulder to balance out the kick of his gun. Hopefully that'll help his appearance!

I like the whole "and uses his six shooter instead cause it 'works better'". It reminds me of the end of the movie Wizards. For those who havn't seen it, I won't spoil anything, even though it's been out for 30+ years now.
