I tried to explain this to Poop, Arsh, V and Ruggels the other night when the subject came up but I think I scared them. Personally, I'm afraid of acting on my impulse to jump. No matter how small it is, it's there.
In the Appalachian Mountains in North Carolina, theres this mountain famous for tourism at Lake Lure called Chimney Rock (plenty of those in the world). Near the rock itself, theres a restaurant build on the side of the mountain. It has that effect on one side because of its huge glass windows. You look and all you see is down. Its very cool, like this, but also creepy if youre scared of heights.
Daz, I sometimes get that same feeling of wanting to jump. We crazy.
I'm absolutely not afraid of heights and I would venture out onto the bridge once to take some pics. Still it is kind of a freaky thing walking out on glass. I would not spend a whole lot of time on it

LOL, Daz! I get the same kind of feeling if I'm going to a titbar ;D
When I visited the grand canyon this past summer, there was a large outcropping that went about 30-40 yds from the edge of the walkway out to the canyon... walked out to the edge of that and took a few photos... wind was blowing pretty hard, and it was a loooooooooooooooooong way down on either side... I'd feel much safer on that walkway than where I was standing...
hehe yeah i have that all the time... every time i'm walking on the side of the bridge or the roof of a building i have to control myself to not jump over...
So, there you go, Daz. Perfectly normal (I'll chime in and say I get it too)
Walkway sounds great. Could do worse things. You could try hiking down to skeleton point with loafers and 500ml of water. .. (no, not me. Someone in my party)
I sat out on the diving board on Half Dome in Yosemite a few years back, dangled my legs over. What a thrill! Wouldn't do it now though, I guess I changed after having kids.
My father-in-law has to actually grab onto things to stop himself from jumping off heights, very scary being around him, and scary for himself of course.

Though I can understand the fear. I'm actually afraid of heights, I just ignore it. (I want to skydive and bungee jump and stuff still).
:P

I stayed in a hotel a few months back, here in town. We got a free penthouse suite, with floor-to-ceiling windows, about 20floors up.
Standing next to the window, I had an unsettling feeling to jump. Small, but it was there. F'd up, if you ask me - I sure as hell don't want to die.

Yeah, I get the same thing. It's not that I'm seriously considering jumping, it's just the thought that I physically could that comes into my mind.
