Did several pages before deciding on this one. I'm going to clean it up, do a little color/material study, then start on the model. I am doing it all in Maya to get aclimated for my Gnomon class.
I love the concept, something completely different, I look forward to seeing the model. Very clever the polies you spend on the extra legs youll get back due to the lack of digits
Slowly getting back into maya. Started from nothing, and constructed all in Maya. Thanks to Daz and MrPhuck for the maya help while I rant and rave. 691 tris so far, I'm on target so far.
I like it a lot so far. I feel your pain with Maya. I'm trying to get used to it right now, and because I've always found Lightwave's modeller much better, it's a pain in the ass to try and model in Maya.
Slowly getting the hang of it. I miss several key tools I use all the time, but I'm sure I'll find equivalents eventually. 1020 tris, I'm saving the last 4 in case I need some deformation help somewhere.
hey poop, you are using MJ poly tools arent ya? I can't model in maya without em... Also helps to take some time and make a simple little control panel to get at the functions quicker.
I unwraped it once in maya to know what I was doing, but the unfold/relax wasn't working well (maybe I don't know what I'm doing fully) so I took it into Unfold Magic to relax the chunks I made in maya. Then cleaned and layed them out in Maya. So basically I used Unfold's relax, but everything else in maya. Only thing I used Max for was to double check the geometry (where I found non manifold geometry maya left behind that a cleanup didn't catch)
Keyword being "can" and not "must". Hehehee. I'm aware, I just prefer using one. Two 512's for a 1024 model is very disproportionate, and I don't need it for what I want to do. I'm not normal mapping it either, GASP! ahahahah. But thank you for the heads up, I appreciate it.
I wanted to go with a Kingdom Hearts texturing style. No grit, or texture to the materials, and smooth gradients for all. I didn't want quite so harsh a separation of color pools like they have, so I gradiated the colors together as well. I'm also wanting to keep everything very high key overall (brightness) which is why nothing is going very dark (save the eyes and hooves)
As an experiment I started by creating a quick gradient with the colors I wanted in it, and filling in a diagonal, without reguard to the texture layout. Then I just started painting on top of it, picking within the existing colors. I like how it worked and I'm going to do it more often.
looks cool dude, i would like to see some of that green on the front, the value contrast is interesting with the pinkish color, just a shame you can only really see it from behind.
love the colour scheme, but i think ( maybe from lack of time i believe ) it still feels too sketchy, shapes arent very interesting ( back part of the body ). anyway thank you for sharing !

Poop ur texture is meh, Look still way to unfinished. and it doesnt come all well together, U could of extend the red to the legs too and do a gradian there too, The horn are weird, I dont understand what they are with the texture.I dunno, It look too WIP now to realy judge imo..

Only problem I have is the pentagram on his forehead... I'm not sure if it's still getting worked out, but isn't working.
Looks awesome though, can't wait for more updates.
