Hello there,
Currently, I am having issues concerning the ability to see and edit my Weights in any manny whatsoever. I had opened it once, as I was attempting to learn the difference between black and white. Apparently, I made a terrible misuse of the white, and ended up rendering the elbow of the arm useless and causing a terrible bend in the bicep. So, I hit Ctrl-Z, several times to undo this mistake, and ended up undoing my rig. As such, I turned around, placed new joints in the arm, and then attempted to(Smooth bind them to the body.
It then decided that they were already bound to something, so I tried opening the Paint Skin Weights Tool to bring the weights back up. Nothing. I turned around once again, this time in circles, until I found a Detach Skin option. So, I destroyed the rig once more, and then created a new one, with a new bind. Satisfied, I opened the Weights tool once more, which still didn't work. I've noticed that the joints are no longer listed in the Weight's tool, and can not be selected, but are listed in the Outliner. Also, my paint tool gives off a large red X, as if the weight texture is just not placing what so ever. Might I have hit a key of some sort?

Any help would be most appreciated... as I wish to finish my work as soon as possible.

Thanks,
Michael

What are your current smooth bind options set to? I'm guessing there might be something there that's causing you all this grief.

edit : make sure that the "remove unused influences" checkbox is un-ticked in the smooth bind options. This might well be what is stopping you from assigning weights to certain joints.

As you can see, here are my basic selections and Errors. First off, you can see that my joints are selected, as well as the Paint Tool yet no influence is shown whatsoever. Also, the joints are not listed on the right as they should be, and the read error in the bottom right( "Error: Value is Out of Range: 0") is the result of my right clicking on a joint and selecting "Paint Weights". Something is obviously out of order here.

BTW - Remove Unused Influences was checked, however, unchecking it, even though I detached the skin, deleted the rig and started over, did not solve the problem.

Thanks for any and all Help.

I believe I have a found a cure. Apparently, over at CGTalk, I was able to find a post which pointed out that I should deselect "Maintain Max Influences" as well.

Everything seems to be showing up now. Thanks for all of your Help.
