what is up with the thread ratings?

When did rating threads start up?

Personally I don't like them. It changes the community feeling of a forum group. If I remember right there was a big discussion about this a while back and the rating system was taken off.

They've updated the forums and with that comes back the default settings. So now the forums have ratings times viewed - which will go in due course..

Yah, since the boards came back online they've been here. You'll also notice you can check how many times the thread has been viewed. Both of these issues are known and Vito is working on getting them removed so it's like how it use to be.

They are soon to go. We had problems yesterday (obviously) and had to upgrade the boards at a moments notice. We still have some things to take back out that the patch put back in. Worry not, oh sealish one. ;]

Views/stars bring about 3 negative feelings to me:

When a thread has few posts and many views, I click to see how bad the art is, then feel guilty for not posting (especially if it has a comment like "85 views and no posts! what's wrong with me?!!").

When my thread has a lot of views and no posts I feel bad.

When a crappy piece of art gets "too many" stars I feel pissed off that mine didn't get the same.

I really don't see how the positive aspects of thread rating can counteract these negative things. Especially since feeling good about getting a lot of stars and views just adds to individual vanity/ego.
