question re: domain registration

hey guys. a friend and i are planning on registering a domain, but we're worried about protection. what's stopping a domain registering company from refusing to renew a domin registration after 2 years when you're getting tons of hits to your website. it'd be more benificial for them to just sell it for some money, it seems to me.
what do startup companies do when they want to register a domain? can anyone reccomend any good ones? i know there's been domain registration posts before, but i'm specificaly worried about long-term security for a website with a lot of traffic.

The one that about are registered with those free domain registering companies, and once the time is up they can choose to do with it as they like.
I can personally recommend www.joker.com for registration, I've had dadako.com registered with them for 8 years!!
