Heya! This is my first post at polycount, I've been browsing it the last couple of months and really enjoy the community so I figured I'd get involved in it!

nice find. but a waste of time. i've created a few characters in the past using some of these images from a different website, and marvel's lawyers have stepped in each time. they have a cease and desist letter they copy and paste everywhere. and they don't reply to your emails, or find lame excuses as to why they're unable to contact you.

So if someone wanted to model one of these just as a portfolio piece they would get a cease and desist letter? I've seen plenty of people with marvel characters in their folios...

They go after just about any community project that involves their characters, and they sued the makers of "City of Heroes" because it was possible to create a 'Hulk-like' character in it. Fortunately, they lost the City of Heroes suit (if I recall correctly).

I have a bunch of these actually. classmate gave them to me to scan and forgot about them. so I have a nice reference binder sitting at home

I'm positive that just modeling these for portfolio purposes is absolutely fine. There are a million Marvel characters out there in demo reels. It's throwing them into other videogames and the like that Marvel are so hot on.

I simply see it as a huge library of control drawings that can be used as a starting point for original figure models. One can leave the Marvel Trademark aspect of the image in the dust.

And seeing these, I can see WHY Marvel sued over City of Heroes. Even the weirdest randomly generate CoH character had a fair chance of duplicating some goofball character in the Marvel Universe.

Somehow I doubt they’d sue me if I modeled Slapstick or Razorback and put it into every game made. They killed off a lot of their goofball characters yet missed the guy in the pig suit that can drive anything. A lot of the characters are drawn inaccurately in the newer version, most if not all are drawn poorly as to just be recognizable as the character (but with a tiny crotch). The book of the dead version of this is hilarious.
