MaxScript Rollout error with Bake to Texture

My buddy Aaron has this copy of MAX 5.1. He's been trying to use Render to Texture, but keeps getting this weird MAXScript error when he chooses it from the menu. This is the default installation. I got him to try Chuggnut's customized Bakersfield script, and damned if it didn't to the same thing. MAXScript error on RollOut something-or-other.
We searched on this, and apparently the problem has been recognized by some, but we couldn't find anyone who had a solution. I floated an idea to Aaron, and told him that sad story about the game company that had the serious bug problem with MAX, only to have Discreet find that it was related to them using a warez copy of MAX. I presented this to him, and he shrugged it off.
Any advice?

There was a fix for it from Discreet (we had this problem at my last employer, Max5 FFS!), you can probably find it somewhere on the Discreet/Autodesk site; he'll have to do some searching.
