According to Hideo Kojima, video games are not art because they are still focused on what consumers think. So if b1ll ignores everyones critiques and makes his models soley for himself then he is a true artist... By Kojima's standards anyway.

just want to chime in and clarify a great man's opinion. here's a quote:

"The thing is, art is something that radiates the artist, the person who creates that piece of art. If 100 people walk by and a single person is captivated by whatever that piece radiates, it's art. But videogames aren't trying to capture one person. A videogame should make sure that all 100 people that play that game should enjoy the service provided by that videogame. It's something of a service. It's not art. But I guess the way of providing service with that videogame is an artistic style, a form of art."

and to point out, what b1ll is making, isn't a videogame
i'm suprised that there's been so much back and forth about the style and method of this and nothing has really been mentioned about the design. I think the colors and technique are great but i'm curious abaout some of the design choices on this. First why does the metal plate on his torso only go to about half up on his chest, what is it protecting? and why is it held on by a string going to one should pad that's only slipped onto what looks like a little metal nub? also why does he have shin guards on the sides of his calves? again what are they protecting? his knees are exposed that way and they dont really protect his shins from anything. I would also expect the large leather strap on his left arm to go over the red cloth to connect to his belt, it's strange how the red seperates the top from the bottom so much. Last why do the straps on his shoes go under the shoes?

Why did singers wear spandex and all that gay stuff in the 80's?: Emo boy could be launching a new fashion craze! or not. I still dig, proceed mr b1ll.
emo fruitcake stuck in a final fantasy super deformed/realistic setting??/ NEEDS A BEATING!!!!!!
it looks cool but it is distracting to see the pixels of the glove due to its small amount of UV map space, maybe you can afford to move some stuff around on the map and resize? Or maybe it is too late for that.. is the chest plate gold/silver metal? maybe drop a texture overlay, right now it looks a bit like padded leather or something soft and squishy.
the realistic face texture doesnt seem to fit the stylized proportions of the body thats the only thing buggin me.
other then that the character is fuggin awesome
As has been mentioned, there are some wierd conceptual decisions (Mature face, big hands, practicality of armor, etc.) but the execution is near flawless. I hope you find time to paint the rest of these guys.
P.S. Thanks for sharing the face painting steps. MERCI BEAUCOUP!11
Nice model and execution, but the style just doesn't do it for me. I really like the other characters though, and i kind of liked this model before the texture(which is really well done, jsut doesnt grab me in a positive manner)
You work is really nice though. I have many of your previous works on my harddrive in my inspiration folder.
animatr,
Ya know each is own opinion, That is fine with me,
but dont believe for a second, I will change my characters for someone else liking when it is a personnel project, Thoses are Fun stuff I do, for uh Fun, so Only my view count , Sorry, and Modesty? LOL, U clearly have no idea who i am on this forum man, i am. a J O K E. THANKS u!
omg Loosers, I print screen, renders, NEVAR! love it, or NOT
and, The fact the realistic texture doesnt match proportions, ah COME ON, its b1ll style baby, b1ll style, DIG IT
turnaround movie is very cool, but 8mb? wtf, learn compression!
if you're making a mov, you don't need to render in 4:3 aspect, make it a square or something that fits the character best to avoid all that empty grey space. Save it as MPEG4 compression, it's probably the best for web. Lower frame rate reduces file size quite dramatically without a huge quality impact too.

Quick crit (WTF?!?!?! OMG I KNOW):
Is this guy suppose to be able to get the bow off the quiver? The way it's attached now suggests otherwise...

(oh... hang on thats happening in the world cup!)
looks good b1ll, i love your style.
I like the model and character though, just don't like how you ALWAYS show your stuff a weird pixelated shot.
Ew.
You work is really nice though. I have many of your previous works on my harddrive in my inspiration folder.
However, a little modesty couldn't hurt either.
quit showing off your per-pixel perfection, punk.
