The idea is, Adidas put up some blank posters with a quote from Leonardo on it: "For those colours which you wish to be beautiful, always first prepare a pure white ground". They also seeded them with some fake graffiti (overkill.com) to encourage other people to tag the signs.
The last step the paste a drawing of the new shoe over the top with strategic areas cut out to show that you can draw on them.
Basically this is the opposite of the PSP campaign, it's been pretty well recieved by it's target audience.
