Cheap cross-country shipping?

I don't really know where else to post this.

What's the cheapest way to send several hundred pounds of random crap from one side the country to the other?

I have a few hundred pounds of my ex-wife's bullshit to ship from California to Connecticut, and although she is paying for it, I still want to find the simplest and most cost-effective method of doing so.

I shipped about 100lbs of stuff to her through Fedex ground, and it was about a buck a pound, and I wanna see if I can do better but don't know where to look.

Book rate via the Post office? it on't get there fast, but it will get there, but make sure it's mostly books.

Talk to a moving company. They may be able to combine it with another household that is moving.

Moving companies should give you a pretty good rate. It'll be a bit more expensive, but they will most likely provide packing material and pack it for you. So all you have to do is call.
They'll unpack, too.
