Hey hey...
So I use Max 7 at work. If I open the material editor when the program first loads then it'll open fine, no problems. Its if I close it and reopen it later to change some materials around that I get problems. As soon as I open it (re: hit M), max will go to open the editor then just outright crash.
Same goes for if I don't open it right after the app loads and I try it after just a few minutes. It's super annoying and started happening a month or so ago - and I haven't changed anything about the computer.
Ideas?

Eric/Xeno: The only 3rd party ANYTHING that I have installed is Texporter.
On a clean start: I can open the material editor ONCE, without it crashing. When I close it then do some work, then reopen it it crashes. Same if I just leave it open, over time when I go to use it again it'll just crash.
My own content: Yes.
Maxstart.max: Not using one.
Running in the bkg: Nothing out of the ordinary.
Max in memory: None.
Defrag: No, but it's a brand new machine not even a month old.
Display: I've tried OpenGL, D3D, and software. I get the same problem.
I've also deleted everything Max related and reinstalled.
This also happened when I was using the Max 8 demo.
SP2 XP pro I'd assume? I've never had this particular issue, and Eric has mentioned most of the things I would have tried besides my first two suggestions.
Last stab for me... try moving all the files out of \matlibs\ and restarting Max. Might be a corrupted material library...?
