Really great skins guys, amazing.
I got delayed by sickness and other stuff and then got stuck on it, so I'm just gonna leave it, and not mail it in (wouldnt wanna ruin a nice skin pack ;p).
Anyway this is where it ended:
Awesome work guys! I suddenly realised I have a shitload of work to do for university this week so it's a bit back-burner, but I'll get it done by this weekend for sure. In the meantime, the more who finish their skins, the merrier
Calling this done. I'll email it later today after I get off work. I wanted to finish sooner and I kinda' rushed the helmet but like Ruz I had the flu for the last few days.
I've noly had two days of working on this since my last update.
3 shaolin monk gladiators in progress.
I have one trouble with the weapon. Should i change the monk spades shaft to a different material?
Johny: looks like issac hayes but less scientologist.
I love your skin ninjas, hollowmind and everybody else who finished.
CMB: Wow, I really like what you've done with that 3rd costume (the most complete one), it looks really cool! I'm afraid I won't be able to put those weapons in with him, but if you're just doing those for practise that's fine
Here's an image to show that I'm not just sitting on my ass here
Left to right, Hollowmind's skin, Nacire's (helmet variation, there's another one with just the face), Makk's and Ninjas'.
Apologies Ninjas, I assembled this screenshot really quickly and took a framegrab in a silly place so your skin doesn't show up very well, it looks great 99% of the time though!
I'll test a bit more later, preliminary play makes it seem like I won't really need to adjust any brightness/contrast, they all work out pretty well in-game.
Just posting this to maybe help speed up those of us who aren't finished their skins
All the anims are finalised now, I just have my texture to finish and some shader tweaks to do, then this guy will be all wrapped up.
Haha yeah, well I'm not pushing anyone to finish right now! You can have a few more days if you like. My post was just really to show that the model is pretty much ready to go, maybe generate some more interest or get people pumped to finishing what they've started.
Yeah, I forgot about GDC too, it seems oddly low key this year.
hey johny, really nice pixel work, good to see someone going in a different direction too
suprore: showing improvement, good work
remember to pick a light source and stick to it - on the upper body around the collar bones you seem to have a shadow where a highlight should really be, if the light is coming from above. also don't be afraid to experiment with different colours... don't use dodge and burn, and don't just pick lighter/darker shades of the same colour, try picking a dark blue or orange for shadows, and maybe a more yellow or pale cyan for the brightest highlights.
keep it up
Just wanted to say, really awesome work everyone! After seeing some of the skilled pixel pushing in this thread, it really makes me realize how much I need to take myself to task on my texturing! 8) Again, awesome work everyone! Can't wait to frag up some gladiators!
@SupRore - Hey man, it's one thing to realize you need to improve and work to do so. It's another to berate yourself at every turn when representing yourself. It seems everyone here is very helpful and critical without being judgmental and cruel. So I see your stuff is looking better and you're are trying, that is awesome, you should be proud of that and your of your work! Not trying to judge man, I just think you are saying negative stuff about your work, when there is really nothing negative to say. The best way to take a step forward is realizing where you stand today! Cheers and get him done!
Hey Suprore, you're showing great progress, I like where this is going!
I hope you don't mind, I did a quick paintover to maybe illustrate some points you could focus on - mainly I think it's lighting. Here ya go:
For example down on the leg armour, if you think about the angle of the armour plates, and the shape they'd be - then consider if the lighting is coming from above, which areas would recieve highlight, which would be in shadow ... then you can fake depth pretty convincingly just by playing with where the highlights are and where the shadows are cast.
Yeah, thanks. I don't think I'm going to change the torso or amrs much, since at the very moment they're looking almost presentable (which is unusual for me,) but I'll definitely see if I can apply waht you said to the armor, which really isn't working as I presently have it.
Mansir: Oh, yeah, I got it! Sorry, I should have sent a confirmation or something. He looks cool in the engine - I like what you did with the helmet, those alpha'd dragon details look very nice in game.
Johny: Yeah, finish! You're almost done anyway...
I'm just hoping some people can get some stuff finished fairly soon, I don't really want to delay release too long since this was just meant to be a short project anyway, and I don't want to diminish the efforts of those who finished after the first weekend - maybe I'll release a pack with the skins submitted already, and release an extra skin pack later when 3-4 other people finish?

Poop - FINISH!
Great work Mop, and thanks for showing the in-game stuff. This makes the retard email fiasco I shamed myself with earlier all worth while!
It's cool to see my skin with so much in game shading, so it's all good
Give us some more time, man! I've just barely gotten back home. Not fair that this was going on while some of us were going to GDC. tsk tsk

Okay. Done.
VERY WIP SO BLARP !

Hope that helps a bit
Johny: I hope you finish yours, your doing an amazing job there.
Thanks for the compliments, folks!
MoP: I tried to send mine in to you, and recieved a couple bouncebacks, just wondering if you got it. Thanks!
Johny: Yeah, finish! You're almost done anyway...
