I think you will find that there are many other ways for people to make their own Eric
Lately I've become fond of describing what I'm doing in my bug report to Discreet as follows...
'I was cursing your name are your flaky program crashed once more upon me for no apparent reason while imagining
a workflow that didn't resemble satan's anus as much as your's requires'
We had a rep here saying one of the major reasons for changing 200 licences from 7 to 8 was the increased stability. Was he just BSing? Have they finally admitted that 7 has some stability issues just as a ploy to sell more seats to ver.8.?

Auto backup was the best feature they ever added.

on the other hand, maybe it is the freecard for not hunting bugs/stability issues more... you can always just say, ah well there is autobackup saving their poor souls
however from my own coding experiences, it's always interesting to see bloated software like max work at all, and often I wished other programs had autobackups too.
Only those on the inside know what's going on, and sometimes that's just the way it should be, IMHO. Too many cooks in the kitchen, and all that.
It's funny, I've been keeping a screenshot library of bizarre errors that pop up, as we test any new engine features. It's fun to see the progression. Any of you keep something like this? Works out kinda like a gag reel.
I like when auto backup saves a corrupted file, sees its corrupted and asks me to overwrite the real file then sees its corrupted that file as well and then asks if I want to corrupt them all again.
I don't get it. Windows is a much more complicated program (especially since it has a lot of direct hardware access stuff going on) yet it doesn't crash nearly as much as any 3d application, even the simplest ones.

I love when it crashes like that.
I wonder if a left-handed person would place them clockwise

you guys are the best support group ever.

Start 3ds Max 8 sp2.
Create a Box.
Add a Normal modifier.
Right-click, Convert to Editable Poly.
Sub-Object vertex, Select All.
Chamfer Settings.
Boom
Yeah I reported it.
What does the normal modifier do? I've never used it before.

It helps.

We all just moan maybe.

The Normal mod does a quick flip of all the faces. Also a quick way to convert a spline shape into polygons.
Reps sell software, right?
