ok, just to make things a bit more clear we finally decided to merge down the two threads in one ( we were not sure to merge our two models before this weekend, though that's what got us into the contest)

so, I'm doing the general character which will be the pilot for Jean's Mecha. Our vision of the thing is a very clean and shirow-ish design, that's why I dropped the strogg-style character for this cleaner one ( she has to fit into the cabin, so no more robotic arm.

anyways, here are our latest wips for this entry, you can still access the original separated wip threads here:

Chico : http://boards.polycount.net/showflat.php?Cat=0&Number=103335&an=0&page=0#103335
Vahl : http://boards.polycount.net/showflat.php?Cat=0&Number=97425&an=0&page=0#97425

    Looking good guys laugh.gif

The mecha looks like a believable bit of kit, reminds me somewhat of an Armadillo but without the stubby legs and cute face lol

The Pilot is coming along really nicely as well, and although I was a fan of the original strogg design, this version does fit in well with the mecha's styling cues. The head does seem rather egg shaped around the back, and the eyes seem a slightly weird shape, looks like she needs less weight on the lower lids as they are drooping down a bit too much, or the inner corner might need to come down a bit, though that will give a slightly more asian look... depends on what floats your boat smile.gif

I don't think that anyone will fully appreciate the costume until it's textured or has some colour splashed over it, just to show the various details off some more but as I said before, it does fit in with the clean look of the mecha smile.gif

Cracking job guys, I hope you get this entry done in time laugh.gif

Honestly I liked the Mecha design better in the early WIPS. Now its just too busy for me. The Pilot looks like it'll be neat, although it looks like the techy outfit was done in Zbrush, which makes it look blobby, rather than crisp as it should. Im certain this entry will be great when its all done, but I just cannot shake the feeling that you guys could do a bit better.

    you must finish!
I know the female will be great, vahl has been doing cool normal mapped characters for a while now:) I really like the armour surface of your mech chico, nor such a fan of the squared toes, breaks the flow of the shapes but it has fantastic detail!

just noticed something awkward with the skull shape, will fix that tonight.

    lowpoly already started

Spacemonkey : thanks, to be honest, we really want to finish, be we kind of lack of enthusiasm while posting, mainly because of the lack of feedback recieved, although we do understand that people can't be carried over by something they don't like, it quite slows the motivation down.

anyways, thanks a lot to those who were kind enough to give honest and constructive feedback, that's really what we are looking for while posting here.

I'm not sure what you mean by lack of feedback, Vahl. You and Chico have received around seventy responses in each of your threads, making your project one of the most heavily commented on in the contest. You certainly deserve it, this is turning out to be one of my favorite entries. Don't get bummed over a lack of feedback; as long as you keep working and posting updates, the rest of us will let you know what we think grin.gif.

As for me, I'm very impressed. Both of the models are very well done, and I'd really like to see them done on time. smile.gif

thanks Zcubed...I was more talking about the RECENT lack of feedback( 1 - 1/2 week, out of 4 contest weeks, with daily update), we decided to team up and I executed drastic changes on the model, which, timeline-wise is a big thing, maybe I really take this a bit too seriously, but having feedback even on that decision or suggestions, would have been really helpful for me ( I know chico had a similar feeling tho), but as I said, I don't blame people, I can understand they are not interested in the new changes or that they don't see where we're heading. Our project is very risky regarding the time left, I admit that it can be weird to see such changes at this stage of the competition, just that I had somehow the feeling that our decision was wrong at some point.

Although, I have a lot more fun doing that model than the previous one, and I guess this is the most important thing and the biggest motivation...We will do everything to finish the entry in time.

again, maybe I'm too attached to this entry, this is something we really wanted to do for a while...
