the original is too easy to play these days. 2 was my favorite. 3 was pretty cool. my friends and i had all the guides and would spend day after day learning all the moves and fatalities. I remember after learning about all the characters, playing as Shang Tsung with all the character morph codes, and owning the whole neighborhood. Ah...Memooooories!!!
How is it butchered? It doesn't look amazingly good, no ... but, uh ... has it ever, really? I always just found MK to be a fun game to play. If I wanna drool, I'll go play DOA, which is not a fun game to play.
I don't understand all the negative reaction here either; I'd have to assume its mainly based on nostalgia.
There is nothing new being done here, it is essentially Deception/Deadly Alliance, with the characters everyone complained about being gone, added back in.
Along with an interesting looking create-a-character mode, and a new single player/Konquest mode.
The last 2 MK games are widely considered the best in the series since Mk2, so this is more of the same I'm sure.
Nothing will ever unseat Mk2, but that doesn't mean they have to stop making them. I thoroughly enjoyed every Mk game except Subzero, and I hope they keep cranking them out.
I don't want to come off as some pompous fan-boy here, but how can any member of polycount not respect one of the most important franchises in gaming history.
It brought about the game rating system, ended Nintendo's "family-friendly only" game policy, and along with Street Fighter 2 completely revitalized the gaming industry.
I'm not saying you have to love every incarnation of it, but when did it become a bad thing to be playing MK?
I don't think, or at least I would hope, that no one here is dogging such an amazing and incredible franchise. However, the latest incarnation in terms of character art does look like crap (IMO). Still, if it is fun to play, and stays true to the franchise, that is a "win" in my book.
I believe they are relaunching the series with the next gen systems, and that this is last MK to use any of the existing characters from the franchise. The next gen version will be entirely new characters/environments from what I've read, and while I'm sad to see some of the series staple characters go I think it's something worth trying.
looks decent but give me MK2 or UMK3 anyday over these 3D ones. Speaking of which I just read that UMK3 is coming to xbox live arcade. yum, UMK3 with online play. Hopefully the lag doesnt kill it.

I'll buy it just for the sheer number of characters I can choose from.
