I was recently hired to create a bunch of 3d fish for an upcoming application from Arid Ocean:

Here are some of them. These are the high LOD versions at 1,200 polys apiece, there were two lower LODs also created at 500 and 250 polys respectively. The textures were done at 512x512 and are a combination of photomanip & digital painting.

Doh... thanks. I forgot to read the top area
great work, very vibrant
Why does the medium LOD have nore horizontal loops in the fins than the closest LOD?
[/ QUOTE ]
Yes it's for animation purposes. The different LODs will be seen at different distances from the camera. At the lowest LOD the fish will be less than 1" onscreen so any animation on the fins would barely be noticable, making additional segments unnecesary. The top edge of the fins are done with transparency in the texture, not geometry, so even on the low and med LODs the fins would not appear all blocky like they do on the mesh.

I don't get it? It sounds like you're just explaining what LOD's are, not why the highest poly model should lack some of what the medium has.
Other than that minor quibble with that LOD great work!
