Just another lurker joining in the fray. I'm reluctant to post this, cause I seem to be bad at finishing things, perhaps because I just lack the type of speed people 'round these parts seem to have... but I have a fair amount of time coming up, so hopefully I can get done. ^.^

    I think I've completed the model unless someone sees something I should change... I've just started rigging, as you can see with the flaps of cloth. smile.gif

    Final polycount is 4992 tris including the doubled sided flaps and the gun.

    the gun, the gun takes the whole thing out of the year 3000 aspect. everything else is great except for the modern weaponry.

    Looking really cool, man, however yeah the gun is detracting at the moment. Not only does it not look suitably futuristic, but it's making her seem like some sort of glorified sniper rather than a genuine leader and general.
    Might also be worth noting that she'd never be able to get the sniper sights up to her eye wearing a mask/helmet like that wink.gif

    Also I'm wondering how she sees out of that mask... does she have a video screen in there or something?

    Also the shape of the foot is a bit bland at the moment, it could look more solid and sculpted, get some reference of shoes and try and match the shapes they use on the soles, should make it seem more natural and designed.
    The topology on the back of the hand is looking mighty odd right now too.

    The rest looks great though - just find a weapon that'd be more suited to her costume and role, to create a more leader-like impression.

    Maybe give her a nice techie flamethrower with a huge sculpted dragon-skull muzzle, to match her helmet.

    Hmmmmm. For the winning pose I had in mind, I'd like to have a staff and something long to hold on to. Thats why I came up with the rifle... but I see I need to think of something else. smile.gif

    hands are looking a lot better now too, especially in terms of construction.
    maybe narrow the end of the toes on the boots a tiny bit? they're looking a little chunky compared to her narrow and lithe legs at the moment.

    That's looking really good dude.....If you wanted to have a staff weapon, just mount a cannon-like fixture to the end and call it a war lance.

    So I have everything done except the textures... some minor tweaks, and that base to stand on. However, textures are where I tend to run into troubles. So if anyone would like to help me out, it would be much appreciated. Also, here's a shot of my planned 'winning pose'.

    I think I figured out a few things about texturing... so maybe I can finish on my own. I'm not sure if I like all the silver shiny bits... and I really don't have a good idea about how the color scheme should go, but hopefully it all turns out alright. <.<

    Using color+spec+bump map and a three omni light setup now.

    Great start man! I like how the skull and armour patterns are going. Get some more darks and detail around the front of the skull like you've done with the cracks and discolouration, they look good.
    Should be cool to make the armour trim a different colour to the armour itself too, just make a new layer, fill it with a random solid colour, then use Image -> Adjust -> Hue/Saturation and shift those sliders around until you find a colour that seems to fit well.

    The black jump suit is very very WIP and I have to adjust some verts around because the rigging isn't quite there yet, but I think I like the way this is turning out. I'm thinking I'll add a glow map to the indented metal bits so they glow blue, matching the rest of the suit and making it look a little more futuristic.

    I also found a cluster of verts being very naughty so now I have about 50 more tris to play around with. I think I'll either add a blade to the gun or add more tris to the cape thingies....

    [edit] Also, you can't really see in these pics, but I made her lips the same color blue, but not quite as bright.[/edit]

    cool... glow sounds good!
    I'd use the polys on lengthening the gun, a blade of some sort sounds good... gun silhouette could be more interesting maybe?

    Added a blade thingy... the idea is that when the gun is used melee style she grabs the main handle and the other handle on the grip and swings it around underhand style. Not quite sure if I like it yet... but I'm still texturing the feet, so what you peoples think?

    While she does resemble hunter, the skull helmet idea has been around for quite a while.

    I mainly thought of the idea from Diablo II's "bone helm". However, the skull itself was heavily based on an alien class I made for Tremulous. (here) I think that in combination with the somewhat large lips are what really make her look like hunter, but I've changed a lot of the body style to make my general have a much different feel... I think.

    Small update. I finished the hands and feet... almost. It was kind of hard trying to get them to look like leather, but its close enough now I think. I'll add some wrinkling to them, and then move on to the head brace, gun, capes, and then I just have the base. laugh.gif

    Also, there are quite a few spots where bending and the like are issues. Mostly because of my shoddy job making a skeleton and rigging it, but since that doesn't matter for the competition, I'll hand move the verts for the final pose(s).

    I'm not really sure what to do with the gun. Right now I'm just copying the style of the armor and hoping it'll look alright. The base is pretty iffy too...

    OK DONE. I've given up adding any real detail to the gun and just calling it done. Will make beauty renders tomorrow...
