I got my next assignmnet. It looks like all the hardwork, documentation, essays and tools production impressed the right peole. I'm on pre-production for our next big title as soon as I roll off Tomb Raider.
Working out what you can and can't do, getting any necessary new tools made up, nailing down art style and working out design. That about covers it. Its also a good time to relax and enjoy not having any sort of real deadlines for a while.
I think I know what your new project might be, Pak...
pre-production is the phase where you figure out 'how' you will make the game which you just secured a budget to develop. In my experience this includes:
-key features
-building conventions (one of the posts i'll be involved with)
-team heirarcy
-personelle assignments
-Planned feature lock of essential tools (this might be one of my responsibilities, I'm assuming)
I jumped in at the begining of pre-production of tomb raider's xbox360 port when i moved here. Now I get to do the sdame thing but this time I'm helping plan the lead sku, which is very exciting. My line producer is on board with all of my ideas, my lead personally requested i'd be one of his men, and my studio's creative director wants to ramp me up to be one of the technical artists helping guide the tools dept after this project.
