Before the Dinosaurs

Anybody else watch this on the Discovery channel? I'm getting more and more amazed at the quality of the cg they're capable of in these shows these days. The lighting, the animation, it's all nearly perfect. It's baffling seeing stuff this good on tv shows when some big budget movies still can't get it right.

The only thing I couldn't understand is why they had the pre-dinosaurs/pre-mammals interact with the camera. It doesn't happen in regular nature shows, so why here?

I like the little touch in the night-vision scene with the reflective irises, like normal animals have. That was attention to detail.

Bored? Cheesy bullshit because animators have full control? It's just their personality seeping through the CG.

Yeah, I rolled my eyes at the hitting the camera and shit like that, too. I'm sure it actually does happen in real nature shows but usually that sort of footage is edited out.

And on another note aside from the cg I do find the shows about extinct species other than dinosaurs extremely fascinating. I do realize that most of the stuff they state as fact and how they behave is just speculation based on how modern day animals that are similar act. I've seen too many shows and read too much about dinosaurs. The species before and in between were much odder.

Sorry if my first post came off as "HUrr, lookie! I tink deyar reel Lol!!1!1 hurr" Hell I just thought most of it was done well. Especially the motion of a lot of them. It wasn't overexagerated like you tend to see with any kind of cg creatures. Towards the end it did get less believable though.

Naw, I saw this show too and thought it was sweet. I had the exact same reaction to the CG. How can they do so much at such high quality?

It was on last night. Knowing the Discovery channel it'll be replayed a lot over the next month or so. Should be able to catch it during the day on the weekend possibly.

EDIT: I just checked, looks like it won't be on again until Feb 25.

Yeah, it is getting much better. I especially liked the Walking with Dragons episode they aired sometime back.

Was one about the large spider? Overall I really like the quality of the Discovery Channel's pieces but there's been a few in the past where it definitely looks like they switch between CG creatures and well crafted props.

They still do that. Most of it's cg but they do use props of the creatures when that's all that's needed.

And yeah one of the parts of the show had a lot about a giant spider.
