So many people here at Ensemble are throwing their hat in the ring for this, that it peeked me and Nates interest. The theme is very cool, and its awesome seeing some of the stuff that is up already.
Here is where we are, since we started on this earlier this week.
We started with wanting to do something Warhammer-ish. Nate did the first concept, and I did the next. We felt these got a bit too close to the War Hammer style.
During the process Nate had an idea of an armored Grim Reaper type character. So we messed around with ideas for that. A skull Helmet, and some torn cloth, and a sci-fi-ish scythe. I think we are going to take the bottom one a bit further. I will start modeling it this weekend.
Got to get working, the deadline is getting closer, and closer.
cool stuff... I like the spikes on the second last guy's shoes. You should make his scythe electric..or not... can't wait to see how the model comes out!!!
Looks cool dudes. I think that it's more "cartoony" than I'm used to seeing from you both. It's a bit of a suprise but I'm sure that you'll produce something awesome in the end. You should show some of the model progressions. They're looking good. Looking forward to seeing the final product.
HEY DAVE! Glad to see you joining in on this. I really like the direction of the bottom design. You might want to bring it back towards realism a bit though. Looking forward to the final product!
Here is the progress so far. Just blocking out some shapes and proportions. I have started detailing up the Energy Scythe that Nate concepted for me I will post a progress of that as soon as I get more.
We are going forward with the last one, Nate and I came to the same conclusion Valandar.
Thanks for the comments Bird, Were going to amp up the scythe for sure.
Thanks Rice, I look forward to seeing the final product to . Hopefully we can find the time to get it done to the quality that we envision it.
Thanks Bobo, the guy is going to be pretty blocky I want his armor to be pretty big and intimidating. The intention is for him to still be realistic, and hopefully when some details are put into the model, and normal map that will become more apparent.
yeah, I think the model is sweet but it does bears a lot of the space marine design hallmarks (legs, the butt-armour, the shoulder silhouette, raised armour above head)
I wonder if you could alter a few things to mix him up a little
i know you're going for beefy and the like but making the model more elongated and thinner i think could really distinguish it from a 40k marine. as soon as i looked at it i thought "space marine"
The original thought I had when I thought of the year 3000, and after 100 years of war a similar look to warhammer comes instantly to mind. I thought of these genetically enhanced and almost tortured humans that were breed for war.
I did go in and mess with the proportions of the guy, and bring in a lot of the shapes to a more realistic-human design. I liked parts of him, Ive also attached another take at the bulky-er model with the different should pad formation and skinny-er shins because it does help it stray away from warhammer quite a bit.
Nate showed me another drawing of the guy, and he has a lot more of the realistic proportions and it looks really nice. Hopefully Ill get him to post it within the next day.
Here's the latest sketch I did for Kube. I tried to make the proportions a little less warhammerish. The scythe looks like ass right now but I plan on doing a paintover to fix those issues.
That concept is pretty badass. My crits:
-I would up the proportions of the scythe, next to his bulky frame it looks rather weak. Would be cool to see something that could slice a mac truck in two or something.
-I would put some variation on the skull, we all like the evil skull helmet look but it could be stretched and pull to look more evil than the average human skull, I did like it more in the hand drawn sketch because of the angry brow line.
Oh yes! Oh Hell Yes! Now that looks like an evil futuristic polycount general! Very nice. Take that concept and get with the modeling, soldier. You're doing your messageboards proud!
ebagg: I totally agree, I was pretty lazy with the scythe. I need to push it alot further. The head started shrinking on me and flattened out as I worked it. I am going to try to push it alot further this weekend.
rooster, toebeeone, and Richard Kain: thanks a lot for all of the feedback, it helps keep me motivated and moving it in the right direction.
