Might as well be on the winning side. =]
I tried staying as far from the "Space Marines" look as I could and I think I've gotten a reasonable distance away. The basic synopsis is that he is a giant floating calculating machine. He uses his high perspective to evaluate the situation and make good decisions. These generals are actually manufactured and use humans (bred for this purpose) to make the choices for the soul fact that machines can't calculate human emotion and the worth of life. The humans are left in a sort of comatose state where they only react to war. Unfortunately, the general can "break" and refuse to take part in the war (in a sense they become aware of what they are doing). Their understanding of human nature is so great the engineers say they can predict the outcome of a battle before it starts. This has yet to be confirmed.
Defenses: Breaks off pieces of himself that intercept (ie: crash) into missiles and various aircraft. If the piece isn't completely destroyed (basically if it can get back to "home base") it will dock back up with the general and undergo repairs. He also has a force field that is used to deflect small projectiles (small caliber rounds, flak, shrapnel, etc) and absorbs beam and plasma based weapons.
Offenses: The troops he commands. The pieces could be considered an offensive weapon, but the general only uses them for defensive purposes.
Weaknesses: Ultra-High Velocity Rounds; slower than hell; if all the breakaway bits are destroyed, he has no way of attacking

Alright, enough with the boring synopsis. Here are some scribbles that took much longer to do than normal scribbles
The top three are more finished looking concepts (I'm leaning more toward the one on the right). The cryptic looking symbols are designs for the bits that break off of him. Then there are five other little concepts on the bottom. Help with the concept would be much obliged. Ideas, thoughts, paintovers; all is welcome. I tend to rush into modeling and would like a nice concept to go off of.
Enjoy.
PS: CGChatters are a bunch of meanies.

Would the pieces actually be attatched, like say an arm, or do they sort of float around next to him, like satelites?
Don't have any idea where this was headed. I stopped once I realized it wasnt looking very General-like and was looking too much like some kind of "Pleasure Model". Hell, maybe after we desicrate the CGChatters lands this bad boy can defile their women? Mmm, evil.
(or you guys can use it for yourself if your boat floats in those waters *winkwink*)
I really dont have any suggestions for you, cause, well, I have no idea where you would go with that. It certainly looks interesting though.
Here's more of General Dilbot...
Here's the insectoid looking robot. I had giant pincher things in the middle (like an earwig's tail), but they were killing the negative space in the middle so i took them off. Not really diggin the thorax looking top either. No matter, he isn't looking very General-like anyway.
Played around in OpenCanvas (damn good fun =] ). I went back to the monolith idea and added the human element. It was looking too much like a floating building otherwise. Not very teched out though...Thoughts?
I think maybe changing the 'torso' shape could go a long ways towards making it more human and General.
here's a quick paint-over I did, hope you don't mind.

Jackablade: Long arms would look pretty sweet. I'll make note of that for if I pick this one up later.
Just to show where I was headed with the side shape...
