I'd be surprised if any of you even remember me, because you can count my postcount on two hands. However, I've been visiting here for 3/4 years now, and this competition is just great. Besides, it's all for the cause, right
?
First of all, don't expect this to be finished - I've never finished anything other than objects, never something organic, skinned only two low-poly things, and I have not the faintest clue of how to make a bumpmap. But there's no better way or learning than trying.
So, my character, which I've nicknamed 'the Psychiatrist'. He constantly believes those CG-chatters to be mentally disturbed, and is 'forced' to operate on them. Ironically enough, it's _he_ who's actually schizofrenic and paranoid. The concept isn't too cartoony... is it? I figured the white coat would be a nice contrast to all the dark concepts that are being designed.
Had a bit of trouble modeling him, because the armor and arm didn't really work out nicely. I want him to have a backpack with four mechanical arms which aid him, with circular saws and the like. His arm will be an electronic discharge glove, attached to a small Van de Graaff-generator, for accute shock therapy. Not very practical, but it's all for the cause.
The thing on his head is some brain-uplink thing, not a weird haircut, btw.

Don't worry guys. He's not armed.

LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOL
puns dont usually get me like that but that one did! nice work.
The mesh is looking pretty good, but I think you might be trying to detail it out too quickly, without solidifying the general shapes first.
think of it this way: every time you add an element that is as expected, the brain shuts off and the person really doesn't see what you've made. they just immediately file it away in that part of their head where they've seen the same thing. so white lab/evil doctor guy ok check, buzzsaw arms coming out of his back, check.... and on and so forth. now of course there really aren't any original ideas left, but there are some novel implementations to be discovered for the old ones. the more you can defy expectations, the more interesting this character will be.
Or whatever. Nice model anywho.
lol! That's mainly because I have this annoying tendency to use tons of different objects. The original idea was to give him some armoured vest, so his arms wouldn't be connected to his body (in a modeling way)
@Gauss:
Thanks a lot, man, that was really a relevation. No less than a week ago, I was arguing with someone that putting machineguns in a mod would be too cliche, and here I was, doing just about the same thing!
The drawback of that is... That I'm actually bored by the concept already. It doesn't matter there aren't a lot of evil doctors in this competition, there are still a gazillion ones out there. So, I need a new concept. What I had in my head was someting along the lines of a religious robot. Religion is strictly for humans, in our world, and people have a fear for robots becoming too human, which *should* make it rather uncliche, yet still a bit scary.
Not much time at the moment, but the idea is that of a living CGchattian saint, who's life-support suit has been hijacked by an evil AI, who now holds the saint hostage. The head is in fact a mask, but you can see the guy's real eyes, neck and torso. The thingy sticking out of his chest should become a skull-on-a-stick. No evil general without one.
(ImageShack is being worked on, so this pic may not work)
A double-post, but it's my own thread, and I've got an update.

Yeah, I don't think you have anything to worry about on that front ¬_¬
But anyway, I actually like the original image more. Not sure how you're going to get the evil-AI bit to read visually, but it's still early to tell, so good luck on that
Ok, a new one. This time with the world's worst paintover ever. He's currently at 4000+ polygons, but I can optimize a lot, especially on his face, which you can't see anyway.
Not completely sure yet what exactly the concept behind him is. The yellow-black //// on the legs is the place where his actual feet are. As a joke to Elysium's post, he's not going to have arms. Or rather, they're in his chest-armour.
Currently at 4350 polies, unoptimised. Not the faintest idea of where to put the extra polygons into...
