as of right now windows live messenger beta (aka msn 8) is using a grand total of 36mb's of memory. peak memory usage is sitting at 123mb's and all i've done is some chatting.
simple to say to avoid this version until such bad memory abuse is fixed.
just figured I would inform y'all out there that use msn currently that the new version isn't too good just yet.

Itunes annoys me, why do I need "itunes helper" and "ipod helper" running in the background eating 20mbs?
On slow machines this is a serious problem. Some of us can't slap more mem in, the machine I'm borrowing for example only has 380mb ram!
no more resource excuses!
Speaking of memory hogs I recently started switching over to Visual Studio 2005 from 2003 and the thing takes up close to 2.5x times the memory that 2003 uses, ugh.
I was using Trillian til recently. Now GAIM has all I need, since Trillian was annoying for IRC. I never log into MSN anymore.
hawken: Go to your start menu preferances, find the box that says "Display Administrative tools in start menu" or something like that the key word is Administrative Tools.
Once you have those shortcuts showing up go to Services. Find Itunes helper in the list, stop it (stop button) then alter its preferences from automatic start to disabled.
No more resources wasted on something you don't need. Also you can uninstall Itunes without uninstalling all of quicktime.
Course I wish that apple would get a clue and allow people to dl quicktime without their damn Itunes, but cest la vie eh? Big company bloatware.

Standalone Quicktime! It's there, just very well hidden.
Is there something else I should be using? These days I just watch everything in my VLC Player.
