niiiice, yeah it's coming along alright. that transition from the torso into the rest of the lower body seems a little abrupt, but overall the detailing is coming along nicely. with the way the lower legs are positioned and designed i can see this thing having a really dramatic/aggressive looking stance, good work with that.
you know, if you look closely at that smash, you'll see traces of green.. thats from the attempt of a glow effect that ended up looking gay. I also tried a red and orange glow, also gay.. I'll give the green another shot.
I really like the stature you gave him, with the back legs sloped down so much further, not the average centaur-esque look, and really gives him a towering feel.
this rocks! really like the concept, its badass. single out the gun in your next concept pass though, it looks out of place right now. like a big candybar
Damn right mr rockstar! A friend of mine pointed out that it looks like a cross between skeletor and the makron, and now that i think about it, it does! Its funny because my inspiration was uriel from q3 and the centipede boss from resident evil zero.. go figure.
//edit: Mit gas, no graves for those dogs! Leave their corpses to the crows!
Woops! someone has lost some inches :P Honestly, i´d go with the taller version. He seems more capable in combat with longer legs.
I´m totally loving that shiny laser bolt.
I like the new coloring job, but I think the shorter legs would interfere with his ablity to fight. I don't think he could really move around and swing his saw blade around without knocking into his legs?
yeah I like the taller one or somewhere inbetween the taller and shorter- I liked the extra bit of mech for his hind legs (thorax?).. -Oh that word sounds cool, dibbs for general name!
I'd switch the laser-light on the gun to the more common red. I think it would add a nice contrast to all the bright green, and match the bloody/rusty red sawblade.
I see on the green tube of the weapon much more than that boring pattern some kind of liquid with bubbles. That could be used too on the other tubes to make it like the veins that go by all the body.
there, one more update before heading to bed. I gave the gun a little more love, i figgerd it needed less "fut" and more "ooumpfh". I'll make it dirty tomorrow. I also tried to incorporate some of the advice given in this thread.
I think you could push the metallic elements and subdue the green. Keep some glowing bits, but don't make them so large and overpowering. I think his real dynamic comes from the proportions of his head to his metalic body. That's the real interesting part to me.
Just wondering. Why are the air outlets on the laser part? Seems rather useless right there unless some air is pushed down the tube behind the laser.. But then why wouldnt the air outlets be in the other end?
yeah what poop says about the glow, what about dulling the glow a bit the further it gets from the torso. then itll help keep focus there and to the face
edit: resin, maybe its for mounting something, or a product or the manufacture process, perhaps its a stock laser that has to integrate into other soldiers. or it looks cool
heh. stock part #1222923 down at the old Robotic-Arm Warehouse. Big Sale this weekend!
Dulling the green would be nice, but if thats the only crit you're getting, I'd say you're ready to model. Okay, I just want to see the model made. Model!
he wasnt doping a taller and shorter versions, its the same guy,, just demonstrating how he would look crouches,, imagine him running at you in the crouched run posistion,, then as he gets right up on you he rises to tower over you,, creepy creepy
Rhino, i think you replied to something on page one.
The things on the laser isnt air intakes, its just rivets (is that the right word?) that's supposed to go all around. Its fixed now. I tried to desaturate some of the green, and beefed up the green in the core, where it all comes from. More dirt, scratches and details. I think i'm ready to start modeling soon. I STILL havent found a screenshot of the makron to check if its too similar. If someone has a save before the makron, i would be most grateful if you could screengrab it and send it to me. I wont start modeling until i'm sure that its not too similar.
//edit: I came up with a name for him too: The revenant. This name was given to him by his troops because they dont really know if he is alive, dead, undead or returned from the dead. (in fact he's a little of all..)
he appears in a blurry video on this page http://www.gamespot.com/features/6136475/p-9.html . personally I didnt think of the makron when I saw your concept. The quake 4 makron was kind of forgettable compared to the q2 design I thought.. its true he does have big crabby legs but I think you're fine
Oh and I would keep the same style for these green tubes all over the model, e.G. either with 'cross texture' or without (but I would prefer them all 'crossed').

here's the initial concept.
Keep it up!
starting to integrate our colors.
updated! Tried to make the torso transition a little less abrupt..
It is looking really great. Keep it up!
i'll incorporate some green on the legs one way or another jhotun, dont worry!
yeah, just take the same green on a very low opacity and smear it over all the metal thats facing the glowy bits.

I think maybe his chain saw should be bigger.
really cool one slash, keep it up !!!

(excuse the crappy photoshop haxx job..)
to a very threatening and towering pose like the one above.
I´m totally loving that shiny laser bolt.
Keep it up!
edit: seems I meant abdomen
The sawblade is awesome, but the green on the teeth looks strange. Maybe have like a glowing ring on the blade itself. That could be neat.
I agree about the gun, though. It looks so clean and slick, compared to the rest of him.
Great lighteffekts, texture and design!
Gave the sawblade a little love. I'm not ready to let the polygon sawteeth die yet.
Great work man, i can't wait to see it finished!
