Hey there
I used the search engine but found no matches. Is there a way to show parallax maps in 3d max? I'm sorry if this is a repost

Does MAX take some standardized form of shaders (HLSL, GLSL, Cg, whathaveyou)? In that case you could look for such a shader by itself.
There is one
here
. It's GLSL and I think there's some way to make it work in Blender...

Get the Offset Mapping shader from Ben Cloward's site:
http://www.monitorstudios.com/bcloward/resources_shaders.html
It's an HLSL shader, apply it using the DirectX Viewport Shader material.
