that's the spirit! better to enlist than to have been forcefully conscripted as you would have been! looking forward to your work Ikraan, glad to see you with us.
A concept artist from work is so nice to create a design for me.
So since I couldn't get really started with the general yet I thought that I might as well waste no time and to create a pedestal for that winning pose. No winning pose, no win!
I know that I am going to need my time for the general and don't want to have to worry about this aroudn March 8th
sweet base design, that's quite well done. the dried blood looks a little much like paint, i think it ought to be darker and more splotchy. but otherwise no comment, it's a lovely display base.
The only good thing about it is the CGchat flag! I suppose one of our generals dropped it after killing a polycounter, because... we're just too damn good to bleed
The blood does indeed need some more work. It should be fresh blood. The skull, bones and torn flag are just some left-overs from an earlier CGchat ass-whooping
One of the excellent concept artists from work has created this design for my general entry. More to come that shows his lower body.
Credits and muchos thanks goes out to Robin Keijzer for whipping this up.
He will have some additional small tech details but Ill make those up along the way. His outfit will ofcourse be green and black
The crest on his back will holster a fine shotgun on the side.
Im feeling it, I might stremline the forearms a bit though, and the silver bars look kinda. . . just there for no reason. Maybe do something with the hat to add a bit more futuristic flair.
Got started on the General. Gotta find a cool name for him.
Still have to do some work on the hat but I'll get around to that later.
I am going to add some tech details but not too much. I want to keep him stylish. Kind of a futuristic Nazi. After all...we are the bad guys!
That character kind of reminds me of that guy from street fighter. Maybe some more exposed futuristic weapons or tech parts could make him seem more menacing.
You're right about that SF character Allycat. Hadn't thought about that at all. I am going to work some tech things and weapons in there.
The thing in the background is kind of a futuristic hover/speeder-bike. It's not detailled at all in this concept but I might throw it in the beauty render.
Made some more progress...
Nevermind the legs. They are just placeholders to help me block out the shape of the coat.
Up next is the shaping the lower arms like in the concept.
Have the base pretty much done. Still need to do more work on the pants/knees and boots. The sleeves I am going to make puffy like in the concept and will throw in some sort of a jetpack.
This general floats a bit above the ground because he hates to get blood from infidels on his polished boots
I still have about 2000 more polys to spend.
Some small changes. Up next is the jetpack.
I am giving myself until Sunday to finish the model. Then I have to start texturing otherwise I wont finish it. Should work out OK.
Working on the jetpack and the sword at the same time. getting there.
Have to finish the model this weekend because creating a texture always takes me forever.
Haha those are some crazy eyes, awesome!
I think maybe the yellow and green on his hat has too much saturation at the moment? Drop it down a tiny bit and it'd probably look more cohesive with the skin tone.
You're right about the saturation. That I'll fix when I am about done with the skin.
Moved on and I've added some more detail to the face. Working on the costume and it's coming along nicely. I'll definetely will make the March 8th deadline.
I really like where this is going man. Try and give the gold bits some more faked depth with some shadows. Don't just bevel/emboss it or anything.. just add some depth to the edging. nice hot highlight on top and a really saturated shadow on bottom make those really look like they are doing something.
I also really would encourage you to give the face itself some wrinkle treatment. I love how you are resolving the bit around the eyes, but the cheeks seem so face lifted if you get my meaning. Look at a 50 year old woman with a face lift and you'll get me. Give this bastard some nasty wrinkles or scarring similar to what you've done. This is a very nice start. High five!
aaaarg! Not enough time
Still have a lot of texture work to do besides the mandatory renders.
Nevermind the saturation of the texture because I still need to change that for the golds and greens.
Besides that the clothes, kneepads and boots still need work.

Overall though, very stylin.

Looking spot on so far though love the poly distribution keep it up.
Is that a cannon i see in the background or is that an air battle ship!?

I´d go for a more sharp boots. Specially on the front view they look too much smooth. Also, on the pants i´d put some wrinkles to create shape.
Keep it up!

For 9 polys you could make some smoke effects for his jetpack, or other effects somewhere else.
I found some unneeded polys under the hat which I'll use for some extra coolness.
Started on the skin last night...

Could have spend another week on it.
But then again I would still not be happy

I find it a shame you didn't just stick to the concept colour scheme but replacing the red trim with green.
Nice winning pic
Less bulky and a little bit mroe mean though.
I liked the colors in the design but they were too much CGChat amd not enough PC
