Do the swords 'grip additions'* with an alpha, loose the 'sword strap-on belt'* (and texture it), and make fists instead of open hands: voila you are in budget

Oh woops. Wrong polycount... the entire thing is 957 (still over), the 1084 is both figures on screen.
But yeah... I figured the hands would have to go and he'd need fists. Can try and experiment with the alpha stuff on the sword... alpha channels generally look poor when the texture is so low res. Might work at the small scale, though.
I think I'm going to keep the strap loop, though. I'd rather spend the extra polies and have a sharp looking texture for his belt.
I'm going to go for regular link.

Its not a bug, it counts POLYGONS if you bring out the counter from utilities it can count both polygons and triangles.
In edit mesh all polys are tris so polygon count = tri count.
