I'd give it a try if i could find my Quake CD again ... I think it's at home. I'm going home next weekend though, so maybe I can pick it up then, and you'll have to tell me all the stuff I need to install to get up to speed with it... I'm really behind on the online gaming scene at the moment
ace- the quake files arent too big so if you can't find the cd I'll send em over. I'm away this weekend too, sometime next week then? I don't know the ins and outs of creating a server, so I'll look into it

I can start up a server (I think it is still there...) on the Polycount dedicated server, if you guys want it. It's in the US, but it is on a nice fat pipe. Just let me know.
bearkub says he'll try to get a server up for sunday afternoon GMT, aiming for 4 or 5ish. Much appreciate the help man! anyone who's interested take a short break from the war to telefrag shub's ass :]
ok, bearkub did an excellent job of getting the pain-in-the-ass coop mode working, meet roughly 8pm gmt at nibbler.fastpc.com if your up for some quakeing!

got your message... anyway i was delayed on the drive home so i didn't get in till 8:30pm... we'll have to try some other time when everything's working properly
well for us euro people, although bearkub's server is very stable, Quake netcode means we get a lot of lag at 150 ping... makes it very hard to dodge ogre grenades and not get shot by the other players
i'll see if i can get a euro-co-op server set up later this week, then i shall surely drop you a PM vahl
Would definatly be fun to join in for a bit, haven't played Quake in too many years. Do I need to get the full version of Quake or can I run the Darkplaces mod stand-alone?
we didnt get on so well first attempt. bearkub did an excellent job setting up the server though, just wasnt to be . I don't know what was wrong but when me and mop tried setting up a server our pcs just couldnt see eachother over the net
edit: if anyone has any info on what might be wrong please give us a shout. bearkub told me I needed to open port 26000 but I couldn't find options anywhere to do that in my router config, and mop thinks his hardware-firewall might have blocked his attempts
No, it turns out I was an idiot (or more likely just never having used this particular router's config before) ... I defined port 26000 as the Quake port, but never actually opened it in the router settings - there was a separate screen for that... my router here has that all on one screen. Ah well.
I should be able to host on this computer, although I dunno how well it'd run a server, this connection is shared with 5 other people.

yeah me too, although me and mop were finding our connection a bit laggy. happy to give it another go . I played kqp deathmatch with poop and mop and it was ace, what about trying some others? Painkeep was pretty good
