why oh why doesn't this forum put the posters name when you make a quote? That really annoys me... you have to trawl through the thread to find out who someone quoted.

Yes Hawken, but if you click the Quote button, it automatically puts "Re: Name of User You're Quoting" in there.
That only doesn't work if you just do a Quick Reply and manually type out the Quote tags.
Basically the forum uses a tree structure for posts now and the RE: thing links to the post's parent. That's also the reason posts sometimes don't delete completely (a post with children will just read "post deleted").
Personally I think tree structures are rather useless for forums with such discrete topics. It makes sense on Slashdot or other news comments forums since there may be multiple aspects worth debating but there are usually only one or two threads of discussion per topic here (and because flat is the default view noone cares about whose post his gets attached to...).
