I think the first word I read ("Clues") is influencing my guess, but I'm going to go with "Clue" the movie.
I haven't seen the movie in a LONG time, but I remember Mr. Boddy died in a chair (the first time he died, that is), and the butler (Tim Curry) later claimed that he was actually Mr. Boddy and that Mr. Boddy was really the butler. The identity confusion and the thing with the chair seems to fit the quote.
