I've recently been willfully forcing myself to finish everything that I have deemed worthy of completion. I've gotten up to the point of UV mapping everything, but after about 8 hours of that I got sort of impatient and tempermental. I now have a throbbing headhache and less of a desire to accomplish my short term goal.
So I got to thinking... I'm not the only one who has grown to loath UV mapping... I hope. Is there some little plugin or external program that is compatible with MAYA that makes this awful experience faster and easier? Thanks, guys. Hope to get to painting soon.

However, I personally think Maya has excellent UV tools - my usual workflow is to select all polys, planar map, then select edges and Split their UV's along the selected edges to make my seams, then just apply Map Edge Border to the selection, then Relax that selection ... usually that ends up with something pretty much final, or if not, just move the border verts to a better position then Relax again to average out the interior verts.
Meanwhile I think I'll read into this little program. Thank you.
Here's a post I spent a little time digging up that may be of use to you in this case:

Enjoy.
2. cut uv at back to make boarder edge
3. map uv boarder
4. relax uv's
5. done, no fancy plugins needed
Just make appropriate seams, then stretch and pull your uvs in a fitting way on the map. It's best when done by trial and error.
Practice. UV mapping is easy.
The new Silo mapping system is schweet.

Yep, looks just as sexy as it did when blender added it
Not that I can stand to actually use blender, but it gets the points for this one

I give u a link:http://www.polygonal-design.fr/e_unfold/frater.php
Unfold 3D is a new great french tool from Polygonal Design ( and i dont tell this cos i am french ...), u 'll find a fraternaware version limited to 1000 polys ( not limited in time ! ). Very useful for organic shapes and/or curves, sphere, faces etc....For example, EpicGames (UT series) use this tool for their next UT2007...
Use Wings3Ds unwrapping tools, guys! Doesn't get easier or faster than that AND it is free, and doesn't have the 'blender arwarkness'.

Good tool yup but Unfold3D is easier and faster, better,stronger... imo...
The live unfolding in blender looks great, but I just don't have the time to learn the crazy interface.
